A New Site for Massachusetts Poets

He was crippled in a fall several years ago and suffered a stroke in 2023. Your support will help cover costs of this site and provide more frequent updates.

Massachusetts Poetry and Writing Groups.

• 1 ) Massachusetts State Poet Laureate, Legislative Contacts.

Massachusetts does not currently have a State Poet Laureate. State Poet Laureates serve an important role in promoting writing and literacy in states. Many serve without pay and without State funding. Some have part of their expenses paid by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.Above are the addresses for members of the Massachusetts State Legislature. Your writing assignment if you decide to accept it, is to write to members of the Legislature and ask that a bill be introduced that will create a State Poet Laureate for Massachusetts. The State Poet Laureate might be nominated by the Arts Council and serve a two year term. Write today!

• 2) The Massachusetts Cultural Council.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council provides grants for artists and art groups in Connecticut working in all genres. Writers and poets should go to the link above for information on grant applications and specific literary programs.

• 3) The Massachusetts Poetry Association.

The Massachusetts Poetry Association welcomes all Massachusetts poets of all ages to join and participate in Society activities. The Association, also known as Mass Poetry holds a number of events, including a Spring Festival. Please see link above for membership information and calendar.

• 4) Massachusetts Poetry Out Loud.

For the past several years, thousands of Massachusetts high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.,
Your high school is invited to participate!
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. • 5) The Massachusetts Poetry Slam.

Poetry Slams are events in which adults and students read and perform poetry for awards and prizes. There are many local events and even a National competition. Check with your local poetry group for the nearest Slam event and Slam schedules. The above link is for The Boston Poetry Slam.

• 6) The Cape Cod Writers Center.

The Cape Cod Writers Center has over 300 members in the Cape Cod area. The group provides conferences (when possible) and critique groups. • 7) Seven Bridge Writers' Collaborative.

The Seven Bridges Writers’ Collaborative welcomes all writers of all genres. The group is currently holding a number of online programs, and normally holds classes and critique groups. The address for the group is Seven Bridges Writers Collaborative, P.O. Box 111, Lancaster, MA 01523.

Steven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States, including many trips to Massachusetts. Heine has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
Heine was crippled in a fall in 2011 and now makes very few public appearances.
